International Law
The international importance of anti-doping law is confirmed by the international community’s formulation and enactment over the last decades of two key treaties: the Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe of 16 November 1989 and the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport of 19 October 2005. Both the Council of Europe and UNESCO have pursued active policies to combat doping in sport, and have provided forums for national governments to exchange views on the matter. It should be noted here that the Monitoring Group for the Anti-Doping Convention and the Ad Hoc Committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency are bodies functioning under the Council of Europe.
